Thanks to all of you and your contributions, God bless you!
India is one of the many impoverished countries that is being effected by the Coronavirus outbreak. The people are facing starvation at an unprecedented rate. The people of India do not have the same access to food and resources that we have here in America (and many other first world countries).
On March 24th, India’s prime minister announced that the entire country (1.3 billion people) would be put on lockdown for 21-days (if not longer).
For the millions of day-laborers in India’s population this was a death sentence. The Indian government, much like all those across the globe, is scrambling to provide relief for the country's most vulnerable population, the poor and day laborers. With businesses forced to close, taxi drivers forbidden to take fares, laborers confined to their homes, and all those already impoverished, millions of people all over India are currently going hungry.
Pastor Augustine Masih, from the state of Haryana, has been updating our organization everyday about the hardships the people in his community have been facing in the midst of the Coronavirus lockdown.
You can watch this video about India's current situation to get more information, and then read a letter from Pastor Augustine below:
As we all know, the world is going through a very uncertain and scary time due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Here in India, the government has imposed a complete lockdown for 21-days (It may extend to possibly June.). Almost all the offices, restaurants, hotels, factories, and local shops have been shut down.
The lockdown has affected the whole country but the most impacted population has been the daily wage earners, slum dwellers, beggars, cycle rickshaw pullers, auto rickshaw drivers, and the other altogether homeless. Millions are already going to sleep hungry.
Based on what I have seen and experienced in my own hometown, hunger will kill people faster than the Coronavirus.
There is currently no cure for COVID-19, but there is a definite cure for hunger. While I am in my community during the lockdown, with the help of my family, friends, and people like you, I will buy and distribute “Corona Care Packages” to 1,000 families (4-members) for the remainder of the lockdown and beyond. The care packages will include the following: wheat flour, rice, sugar, tea powder, lentils, cooking oil, bathing soap, washing soap, spices and crackers).
Each CCP costs: $40 USD = 3,016.4 INR
I humbly ask that you would keep the nation of India in your hearts and prayers and consider supporting this effort. I also pray that the Lord protects you and your entire family during these uncertain times.
God bless you all!
