Bless a Child in India this Winter

This winter we are helping families in north India who are susceptible to cold weather survive by gifting their children Winter Protection Kits. The package includes children's gloves, socks, shoes, a hat, and a large warm blanket that can keep 3-4 other family members warm as well!

In a country like India, centralized heating is almost non-existent and millions of people rely on fire or hot coals to stay warm during the winter. Over the past several decades, the winter season has been increasing the rate of cold weather-related deaths in India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in 23 of the last 38 years (1980-2018), the human death toll in India due to cold waves was higher than during India’s severe heat waves. Sadly, those statistics are not thought to improve as the nation is struggling to combat the second-highest number of Covid-19 infections in the world.  Government officials fear that India's hospitals will be flooded this winter. The number of usual winter-related hospitalizations and death caused by respiratory infections, pulmonary disease, and or pneumonia is only going to increase due to Covid-19.

The people of India and its infrastructures are still reeling from one of the world's most immediate and drastic lockdowns. Millions of impoverished people are just hoping to survive the coming winter, many of them live in un-insulated and even open-air structures. Warm blankets and winter clothing for each family member is seen as a luxury to many. However, you can make a difference today by gifting a Winter Protection Kit to a child and their family!

Winter Protection Kit Costs: Blanket ($20.00) + Hat ($2) + Gloves ($3) + Socks ($2) + Shoes ($8)

= $35

*Blankets can keep 3-4 family members warm.*

A Letter From India...

Dear Partners,

Greetings from India! I pray that you and your families are well and that you were able to have a blessed Thanksgiving celebration, despite any Covid-19 restrictions!

As this season of giving is upon us, I wanted to encourage you by sharing what your help and generosity has done in India. From April to July of this year, 200 families in the state of Haryana were fed, during the national coronavirus lockdown. Your sacrificial giving allowed hundreds of men, women, and children to escape starvation in a time of severe uncertainty. We thank God for you all!

On behalf of those same families, we want to share with you how you can continue making a difference in their lives this Christmas. As the temperature in India plummets, for only $35, you can help families that are susceptible to the cold by gifting their children a Winter Protection Kit. Winter Protection Kits include children's gloves, socks, shoes, hat, and a large warm blanket that can keep 3-4 other family members warm as well!

At the start of November, the northern states of India began experiencing a severe cold wave. Many families are still devastated from the aftermath of the coronavirus lockdowns, and millions are facing a bleak winter ahead.  Over the past several decades, the winter season has been increasing the rate of cold weather-related deaths in India. The number of usual winter-related hospitalizations and deaths caused by respiratory infections, pulmonary disease, and or pneumonia is only estimated to increase due to the physical effects of Covid-19.

To the impoverished living in northern India, central heating is non-existent, warm blankets and winter clothing for entire families is a luxury. Most people rely on central fire pits or pots filled with hot coals to keep warm. However, for the majority of poor and migrant worker families living in tents and other makeshift/open-air structures that are open to the elements, there is no escape from the freezing air. In my local areas, families sleep communally, huddled together to stay warm. We may not currently be able to build these families better homes or buy them expensive heaters, but we can try our best to bless them with some winter clothing items and warm blankets. We will do everything in our power to help them stay warm and safe this winter.

With Christmas less than a month away, we humbly ask that you consider contributing to our cause and share this information with your friends and families. This Christmas, let us think beyond ourselves and give to those who are less fortunate. May God bless you and keep you all safe this Christmas.

Sincerely,

Pastor Augustine Masih

Video of Life in Early Winter

Most families sleep communally to stay warm. Notice in the video that homes/dwelling structures are open to the elements. Many people living below the poverty line in India can not afford heavy warm blankets and winter clothing for each family member. However, you can make a difference today by gifting a Winter Protection Kit to a child and their family! The child will receive warm gloves, socks, shoes, a hat, and a large blanket that can also keep 3-4 other family members warm!
